Dr. Wang is a Michael Smith Health Research BC Scholar and a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada New Investigator at Centre for Heart Lung Innovation, St. Paul’s Hospital. She received her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from University of British Columbia. During her postdoc training at UBC and Stanford University, she received several prestigious international awards, including the Elaine W. Raines Early Career Investigator Award by the American Heart Association and the Junior Investigator Award by Fondation Leducq PlaqOmics Trans-Atlantic Consortium. Her research program integrates cutting-edge ‘Omics’ technologies, biobank resources, and mechanistic studies to improve treatment outcomes of ischemic heart disease. Upon joining UBC in 2021, she attracted >1.5 million research funding as the principal investigator. In 2022, Dr. Wang was appointed as the Director of Bruce McManus Cardiovascular Biobank, which has the largest collection of explanted hearts in Canada.

Research Interest

Dr. Wang’s research aims to advance cardiovascular medicine for patients who suffer from ischemic heart disease. Therapeutics, vascular biology, and technology development are the three pillars of the research program.

  • Atherosclerosis: therapeutic target mapping, biomarkers, pharmacology
  • Vascular biology: vascular smooth muscle cells, cell-cell/microenvironment interaction
  • Endotyping technology:multiplex imaging, spatial gene expression, disease modeling

Clinical interests

  • Drug repurposing
  • Personalized medicine
  • Digital pathology

Teaching Interest

My teaching philosophy is:
  1. Visualization of the concept map to build students’ knowledge structure;
  2. Create an inclusive learning environment to stimulate active learning;
  3. Application-oriented practice to allow students to understand how classroom materials fit in with the larger picture of their career development.
